Adult Female Panchlora & Arenivaga Photos!

One of my female Panchlora sp. "Guadeloupe" have matured!!! 😁 Now I can get to work on actually breeding this new banana roach species! Oddly though, she does not look as dark green as I was expecting for the females of this species, and is quite close to the males in coloration, though definitely a bit more greenish for sure. All in all the coloration reminds me very much of an adult male Panchlora sp. "Speckled", a very pale green with almost a silvery sheen to the exoskeleton and wings. She also looks less broad and flat than the female I've seen pictured as well.

In any case, here are some pictures of her, it was hard to get these as she was not too cooperative, and the three adult males in the enclosure were also clamoring to get out as I was removing her... 😅

Pretty right? Really looking forward to getting some offspring from this species, fingers crossed they do well for me!

I also wanted to share some better pics of my adult female Arenivaga bolliana "Del Rio" (Dark Form), since I noticed they all seem to have a reddish hue to their abdomens, which is more noticeable in some individuals than others. None of the females from my old colony of the normal phenotype had reddish abdomens, so this appears to be unique to this form of bolliana! These are doing very well for me by the way, both males have passed away, but hopefully they did their job well before dying, because all my females are laying oothecae now! 😃

Here are some pics of one of my largest and most reddish females, and of one of my smaller, darker females that is laying an ooth:

I love how interesting this strain is in terms of coloration, hopefully the ooths start hatching in a couple months or so, and I can start spreading this strain around more in the hobby! 😄

Anyways, that's gonna do it for today, thanks for reading, I hope everyone enjoyed, stay safe, and I'll see you all in the next post! 😉

  1. (This is AAA, not sure how to get blogger to recognize me 😂)

Congrats on the adult female "Guadeloupe". 😃 Both species are gorgeous! Do you happen to know if the normal form of A.bolliana is still circulating in the hobby? I haven't seen them around really at all in recent years.

    1. Well you are showing up as Joshua Campos to me, so I recognize you LOL! :p

Thanks, really looking forward to getting offspring from them!
Yup, Brandon Maines still has my old culture of normal A.bolliana actually, they do OK for him but I guess not well enough to sell from them much. But yeah they are still around. :)

    2. Ah, I now see that as well! lol When I go to add a comment, it only gives me the option to reply as a "Google account", so I just can't tell if it'll label me as Joshua or not until afterwards I guess. 🤷‍♂️

I bet - best of luck!!
That's awesome to hear; I got some from him a couple years ago and sadly they fell to a fungus caused by insufficient ventilation rather quickly. Might have to try again eventually!

    3. Does the same thing to me now too, so weird!

      Thanks! :D
Yeah fungal infections kill them super fast, so weird because I'm not sure where said fungus comes from, perhaps they just naturally have it in their gut systems? In any case, keeping them well ventilated fixes the problem easily, so hopefully you'll get to try with them again! :)

  2. Good luck with the ooths. Certainly interested in offspring once you have a surplus of them!
