Special Sinodillo & Harvestmen Updates!

A little update on my ex. Merulanella sp. "Vietnam", which have now been properly identified as Sinodillo sp. "Vietnam". 😁 They had had a bit of a crash due to me overwatering them, and I think the stowaway Alaus larva that was in their enclosure maaaaay have snacked on some adults too... 😂 However they've recovered, and I've rehoused them to an enclosure with better ventilation, as well as a tighter lid (I think babies may have been escaping in the past as well, as their old shoebox lid wasn't that tight, and these Sinodillo climb even slightly dirty enclosure walls with ease).

In interesting news though, a few of my individuals are an orangish color all over! 😲 I've isolated the four I found that look like this (including one gravid female), so hopefully they'll breed and produce more similar looking offspring!

Hopefully that orangish morph can be isolated, and hopefully a bit intensified too. Would like to get rid of most of the patterning and end up with a mostly solid orange, deeper orange morph, but we'll see what happens. 😄

My Eumesosoma roeweri have been growing well (all the old adults are still alive BTW), some of my immatures are probably only a few molts away from maturity! 😁 Interestingly, they don't seem to gain their black coloration until adulthood, which is fine, since the immatures are very ornately patterned in various shades of brown, silvery tan and black.

Eumesosoma Babies!!! (& Panesthia Pics)

Well, I've officially bred Eumesosoma cf. roeweri! 😁 The babies have started hatching out from the first egg clutches, and the adults are STILL laying more eggs BTW. 😅 Will hopefully have dozens upon dozens of these black velvet harvestmen babies soon, that is if they aren't super cannibalistic... Which so far, with ample dog food, fruits and springtails available, they don't seem to be. They hatch out at a whopping 1mm in body length, so like, half the size of Vonones hatchlings. 😂

Many of them are plumping up and will likely molt to second instar soon. Looking forward to watching them grow, and hope to spread them around in the hobby to interested parties soon! 😊

Just for the heck of it, I took some pictures of a couple of my larger Panesthia angustipennis angustipennis "Sabah, Malaysia - Gold Winged Form" nymphs the other day. The variation in nymph pattering is rather interesting IMO.

Also, small updates but notable nonetheless, as of a couple weeks ago, I have babies in my Cariblatta lutea and Neoblattella detersa colonies already. That was pretty fast. 😄

Random Late Fall Updates

Well, lots has happened over the fall, and in addition to gaining lots of new species, I've also gotten rid of a bunch in preparation for my probable move across the country early next year. 😅

One species I got rid of was Pycnoscelus tenebrigera, however before doing so, I'm happy to say some of my male nymphs FINALLY matured, and I made sure to snap some good pictures of them before they left:

Very very pretty, an underrated species for sure IMO. Rich coming from me, considering I just got rid of mine, but let's just say that after my move, I definitely wouldn't need the small colony I had... 😉

Next up, my Princisia vanwaerebeki "Androhamana". Still no babies yet... But I got some photos of them on my phone recently that I just wanted to post here for funzies:

I'm happy to announce, I've got my first adult male Polyphaga plancyi! 😁 Now, the females are still quite a bit behind, but this doesn't matter that much, since Polyphaga males live about a year, so the frmales have plenty of time to catch up (not to mention I've still got several unhatched oothecae that Martinho sent me recently). The females are looking really pretty though, hopefully they'll be mature in a few months. 😊

Definitely one of THE prettiest Polyphaga males I've ever seen, I love their pronotum markings! 😍 Can't wait until my females are mature!

My Blattidae sp. "Thailand" are nearly all mature now, and man are they quite pretty as adults. 😁 Definitely a very unique Blattid, they're large, lanky, and have an almost Archiblatinae "hunchback" look when they're resting, weird. Their oothecae are also VERY long and pretty thin too, which is also unusual.

Fingers crossed they breed well for me, definitely one of the most unique Blattids in the hobby I've seen in a while, even if they're not the most colorful!

Lastly, my Eumesosoma cf. roeweri harvestmen have been quite busy, I dug around in their enclosure recently and found several large egg clusters buried in their substrate! 😁 These definitely seem to be quite prolific harvestmen, and my theory of keeping them cool during the Fall to induce breeding seems to have been correct. Now, hopefully their offspring are easy to rear, if so I can see these quickly becoming popular in the hobby. 😄
